Frequently Asked Questions
Lip Blushing
-
Lip blushing is a semipermanent tattoo that deposits pigment into the lips. This is done to enhance the lips’ natural color or shape, add definition, create a fuller appearance, or correct any asymmetry.
-
Discomfort levels can vary from person to person. The lips are a naturally sensitive area, so we will apply a topical anesthetic before and during the process to ensure minimal discomfort. Most people describe the feeling as a light scratching or pinching sensation.
If you begin to experience any discomfort during your procedure, just let us know and we can apply more numbing cream.
-
Touch-ups are recommended about 6-8 weeks after the initial treatment. During the healing process, you can expect the color to change quite a bit and your final color will begin to show around week 6. In your touch-up, any final details that need more pigment or need any correction will be addressed.
-
This will vary from person to person, but results typically last between 2-5 years. Additional touch-ups may be helpful to address fading or achieve your desired look.
The biggest factor affecting longevity of lip blushing is proper aftercare, so make sure to read and follow all instructions.

The procedure takes roughly two hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. Please allow a solid 3-hour window for your appointment. I likely won’t need that much time, but this isn’t something I want to rush.
-
There’s no downtime associated with the treatment, but you will likely experience swelling, bruising, oozing, and intense pigment at first.
-
Healing time varies from individual to individual and will be affected by adherence to your prep and aftercare instructions.
Here is a typical healing timeline:
Day 1: Expect possible swelling, redness, bruising, oozing, and intense pigment.
Day 2-3: Swelling and pigment vibrancy should reduce slightly.
Day 3-4: Peeling may begin as scabs start to fall off and reveal the new layer of skin underneath.
Day 7: Pigment color should have diminished around 30-50% from day 1.
Day 7-10: Top layer of skin should finish healing.
Day 10-14: You may notice color dissipating at this point as scabs thicken and cover the pigment, but the color should come back by week 4-6 once the lower layers of skin have healed.
Your lips should be fully healed by weeks 4-6 and ready for you to come back for your touch-up appointment around week 6-8.
-
The entire process takes about 2 hours total. Preparation is key in achieving beautiful results, so make sure you follow all instructions carefully.
Your consultation and prep work will take a good portion of your appointment time. This involves final color confirmation, drawing out the shape, and making any adjustments. We will then apply topical anesthetic for 20-30 minutes before beginning the procedure.
The lip blushing procedure itself will likely take about 60-90 minutes.

Unfortunately, I can't. How the skin will react is different for everyone, and many factors are to be considered. Skin type, age, scarring, diet, stress levels, facial products used, etc., all play a key role in your results, which is why it is essential to know that more than one touch-up may be required. There are no guarantees in this industry. Please think long and hard before you decide to go for it.

Although lip blushing is considered semi-permanent, the procedure allows flexibility for color or shape change to some extent. However, I will work closely with you to ensure that you are satisfied with the proposed technique. I will allow you to have as much control over the procedure as possible, so there’s very little room for error. If you do not like your decision, the Touch Up can be canceled, and the pigmented area naturally fades over time. If you aren’t 100% sure you would benefit from this procedure, please opt for more temporary options.
